Keeping an eye out for trustees
Building an organisation such as ours from the ground up takes time, dedication, and the work of many hands.
At the risk of boring you, let’s start with a few technical bits of info before moving on to something a bit more interesting.
The fine print…
Currently, FCGN is a single-tier organisation – meaning that there isn’t a vast membership: the membership and the trustees are one-in-the-same. It is a small organisation looking to push forward growth ASAP.
Soon, however, we will set ourselves up as two-tier, which means a wide membership, from which a smaller pool of trustees will be elected and chosen to help steer and guide the organisation.
We are single-tier now because we need to focus on set-up, getting systems in place, policies written, budget trackers created, strategic plans developed and put into place, etc. This takes the effort of a small and dedicated group.
We will be two-tier in the future because, long-term, we want FCGN to be reflective of its membership – each greenspace’s wants, needs and concerns. Our membership will be wide and our board open to those who want to put the extra effort in.
How you can help
Although we’d love to change the world overnight, we know we need to take careful and considerate steps to ensure FCGN gets up and running as smoothly as possible. Therefore, we are currently looking for just a few, keen people who may want to join us as a trustee. We are particularly looking for people who have some extra time to devote to FCGN – between 8-12 hours a month. If you have experience in charities, business formation, accounting, social media, HR, policies and procedures, or are just keen to see FCGN succeed and want to help in any way you can, get in touch. We need your support to be successful!
More fine print…
We’ll leave you with a list of FCGN’s objectives as listed in our Articles of Association. This is a legal document that we must follow – it sets out exactly how we work, and is available for anyone to peruse, to make sure we’re doing what we’ve set out to do. If any of the following objectives are close to your heart, and if you’ve got skills and some time to share, please do get in touch.
The advancement of community development through:
- the provision of support and increasing engagement within Fife’s existing community Greenspaces.
(To include practical support, targeted staff members and physical resources with the aim of building capacity, increasing access to the natural world, nutritious food and to improve the wellbeing of all participants within the community.)
- preserving existing greenspaces, promoting the cultivation of suitable ground and generally to foster an interest in sustainable community gardening and promote new Greenspaces in Fife and encouraging and supporting the formation of groups and encouraging the sharing of site resources, skills, knowledge and equipment and facilitating networking and mutual support.
